Meet the Real Mr Bingley from Pride & Prejudice...

Recognize this little face?  Here's a hoppy update from his humans, Kasey & Frank.  : )

Lola [our Uuuursula] and Geiger (now Mr. Bingley) are doing terrific. There is still a bit of butt-biting, chasing, and a struggle for dominance going on, but no real fighting. They're perfectly fine sleeping together in the pen ... Mr. Bingley just needs to accept that she's dominant and learn to groom her, hahaha. He does however love our couch excessively, and would flop there all day if someone would pet him that long. He's a big time snuggler. I'll send you photos as soon as they settle in a bit more.

He's such a sweet bunny ... still can't believe anyone would bring him back.

Five Ways to Give without Spending a Dime

News and Features

Five Ways to Give without Spending a Dime

You'd like to give more to charity, but your meager income won't allow it. Fortunately, we've rounded up five great sites that let you contribute to charitable causes without spending a single dime.

By Kathryn Hawkins. Posted on February 27 2008 Filed under Features | General Interest | Non-Profits |
5 ways to give

Even if you write out a check to every charity that sends you a handwritten letter and a photo of a pleading child each Christmas, you can’t help thinking that it’s never enough –with the money you’ve got left over after paying for all your bills and basic necessities, you’ll never be able to fund a school in Africa, or to give a family enough food to keep their bellies full for even a single week. Your paltry donation might buy a few extra pens and stamps for the nonprofit organization you sent it to, but that’s about it.

But don’t worry –even if you’re not in Donald Trump territory, you can still donate to a variety of great causes every day without spending a single penny. All you need is an Internet connection, and you’re good to go. Here are a few of our favorite free ways to give.

The Hunger Site
(thehungersite.com)

This site features click buttons for six different causes: hunger, child health, breast cancer, literacy, the rainforest, and animal rescue. The concept is simple: Just click the button for each cause once every day, and the site’s sponsors will make a charitable donation on your behalf. If you purchase an item from the site’s online store, they’ll donate even more. It takes just thirty seconds a day to make a difference in someone’s life without spending a cent –make this site a daily stop. Better yet, make it your home page, so you won’t start a single day without chipping in.

Ripple
(ripple.org)

Ripple works exactly the same way as the Hunger Site, funding clean water, food, education, and a $100 loan with your daily click. Ripple also features a Google-powered search bar, which makes a donation every time you use it. To get all your friends in on the giving act, add Ripple’s “give” buttons directly to your blog or Facebook page.

Free Rice
(freerice.com)

We’ve written about this one before, but it’s such a great concept that we had to bring it up again. The site features a vocabulary game, where every correct answer you choose donates 20 grains of rice to an impoverished country. Play as long and as often as you like –you’re bound to pick up a few SAT words while saving the world.

Free Poverty
(freepoverty.com)

Have you ever played the Facebook staple, Traveler IQ, where you score points by locating cities and landmarks on an unmarked map? This game is just like that, but better –with every correct answer, the site donates 10 cups of water to a poor country on your behalf. It might make you feel like an idiot for the first few rounds when you realize you can’t even locate the Statue of Liberty, but the fact that you’re making a difference should soften the blow a bit.

GoodSearch
(goodsearch.com)

Are you passionate about fighting poverty? Want to save the whales? Are you committed to curing breast cancer?

No matter what your cause is, you can find a way to support it through the philanthropic search engine tool, GoodSearch. Simply type in the name of the organization you want to support, and GoodSearch will donate 50% of its advertising revenue to your charity of choice. With 54,000 organizations already registered, you’re bound to find a cause that you believe in. Once a few people hop on board, the funds add up fast: If a charity has 10,000 supporters who each use the search tool twice a day, that can add up to $73,000 in donations for the year.

Best of all, GoodSearch recently added a GoodShop tool, which allows you to donate a percentage of the cost of your purchases to the charity of your choice. The store choices include all the big names like Amazon, Best Buy, and Travelocity, so be sure to click through from the site whenever you’re planning a new purchase –you’ll finally have an excuse to feel good about shopping!

Caring for the elderly rabbit

House rabbits today benefit from increased awareness of the importance of proper care and nutrition. Our bunnies now enjoy longer lives than ever before; the downside is that this necessitates early recognition of geriatric-related health problems. Translation: the reward for all your good care is an arthritic bunny! Fortunately, there are ways to minimize the impact of aging on your rabbit’s quality of life..more here: http://www.examiner.com/x-7748-Dayton-Small-Pets-Examiner~y2009m8d23-Caring-for-the-elderly-rabbit?cid=examiner-email#

Belle the cat: Okay, I'm getting freaked out now... why is the bunny sitting there quietly behind me?  How come he isn't chasing me?  Is he up to something???

Dailybunny_belle_and_confucius2

Confucius: Okay, wait for it... in 3... 2...--

Belle: Gah!!  I can't take it anymore!  I'm out of here!

Dailybunny_belle_and_confucius3

Confucius:  Heh-heh... that should be good for at least one week of the cat leaving me alone... Excellent.  Now, I nap.

:P  A rare moment of parallel lounging in our house!  Usually when these two are that close, there's more grunting involved!  ...I am actually pretty sure that's what was going on in their heads :P

Hello Alinda,

Yes, it is the same Yams that is on your site. I created a website called www.SaveYams.com which lists your site under the "adopt" section.  I've always loved Yams, it's just that I have had another rescue rabbit before I found Yams, and it's been advised to not keep them in the same living quarters.  That's why I am trying to find a great rabbit home for him.

Other than his eye problem which needs surgery, Yams is healthy and happy.  His eye tumor area was growing for a while, but has stopped from enlarging more at the present.  However, it's impossible to see what is going on inside the eye.  At the last doctor visit in December 2008, the ophthalmologist at Eye Care for Animals said it is possible his eye could be restored to see sight-- it was done before on eyes like his.  She also mentioned that it's unclear to what lies beneath the layers on the eye.  During surgery, a determination could be made to try to save the eye or remove it entirely.  It is uncertain what the outcome for surgery might be, even now that more time has passed.  If you have any more questions please ask.  Thanks for the support!

Take care,
Dave Klec and Yams

Hi Dave.

Well, the whole rabbit world saw you on TV and wants to know if that was the same Yams they've seen on our site.  Oddly, I was thinking about touching base with you.  We haven't had any nibbles, but it sounds like you've fallen in love with the little guy e.cuni or not.  ; )

If you send me a short write up on Yams' situation, I'll broadcast it on our sites.

Best,
Alinda

Outdoor playtime for house rabbits

Outdoor playtime for house rabbits
August 6, 8:04 PM · Phyllis O'Beollain - Dayton Small Pets Examiner

                           Freakisly distorted rabbit?

While rabbits are wonderful indoor pets, they also enjoy being outside with you, taking in a bit of fresh air and sunshine and grazing on fresh greens. There are, however, many things to take into consideration when planning an outdoor play area for your house rabbit. They need protection from predators and parasites, the elements, and environmental toxins. Keep in mind, also, that rabbits’ main occupations are chewing and digging - your garden hose isn’t going to last long in that play area, and a rabbit can dig under a fenced area in no time.

Update from Simba (Corelli's) mom!!

Simba's been growing quite a bit now.
He's not getting fatter, he's literally growing up.

His mane, reaches halfway down his back now.
He has pants now too.
Long white ones that almost are as long as his tail!

I've attached some pics i've taken of him recently.
I'll take some more detailed ones later so you can see his pants and such.

P.s. He binkied and crashed into a water bowl today.
I had to towel dry him.
Oh and he always "purrs" when my mom and I pet him around his neck.
It's sooo cute.

Police chase moped towing stolen lawn mower

You just can't make this stuff up...

By Kimberly Dick | Rock Hill Herald

A moped driver led police on a chase after they spotted him towing a stolen lawn mower, police say.

Lindsey Phillips Jr., 42, of Rock Hill was charged with resisting police after running from police Friday afternoon.

Earlier that day, a Rich Street resident reported a Troy Built red and black push mower was stolen from her back yard. She told police a man riding a white bike took it from her yard, according to Rock Hill police reports.

Nearly six hours later police, spotted Phillips riding a moped on Walnut Street. He was towing a lawn mower and a weed eater, reports states.
